Sleep Study Results

Last week we got back the results from the sleep study. During the study, Kaitlyn had 2 apneas. However, the doctor didn't seem too concerned about that. Her lowest oxygen saturation was 95% and her average saturation was 98%. So that was good. What concerned him was the fact that her total arousal index was 21.0 per hour. That means she woke up an average of every 3 minutes! .4 per hour is due to the apneas, but 20.6 was called "spontaneous."

He indicated that a common reason people wake up that often is due to GERD. So he suggested we treat it as such for a couple of months and see if we have any improvement. He prescribed prevacid.

Kaitlyn had reflux as an infant and it was treated, but once she started on solid food the pediatrician felt that it had resolved. Recently, many of the doctors/therapists we have seen have asked about reflux. They wonder if that is the reason she doesn't eat solids. Hmmm?
