Fun at School

Babies Bork?

How does that sound? I'm pregnant! Almost 13 weeks. I'm due October 6, exactly 1 month earlier than Kaitlyn's birthday. But the doctor said we would likely schedule the C-section for a week prior. So I'm focusing on September 29!

Knock on wood, I've made it through the first trimester feeling good. Fatigue, yes, but no morning sickness. And I've been really proud of my weight gain so far. Much less than last time. So off to a good start. But I was showing really early. I started having issues with pants fitting over a month ago. So I pulled out the maternity jeans. But I feel so frumpy when I wear those, so I've been glad that the weather is warming up and I can wear all sorts of cute dresses. I plan to live in dresses this time!

My next OB appointment is April 13. I'm doing some blood screenings.

A week without tonsils

What a week we have had. We spent the night in the hospital with Kaitlyn after her surgery. All in all, I'd say that part went better than expected. They had her in a normal hospital bed but that didn't seem to phase her. For awhile she was pretty out of it and she would dose for short periods of time. And every once in awhile it was almost normal! She would be sitting in the bed playing with some toys as though nothing was strange about that. The IV drove her nuts and made things difficult at times. She would get tangled up in it or she would try to pull it off.

She slept some that night but it seemed that they perfectly spaced vitals checks and pain meds so that they were bugging us every couple of hours. At some point I was getting pretty tired of having her woken up! We were relieved that she drank some and even ate some yogurt while we were there. But we were so happy to go home. Mommy for sure! Kaitlyn wouldn't let me out of her sight. She got super upset everytime I had to go to the bathroom and would cry until I came back.

The days since have been up and down. She has periods of time when she giggles and laughs and plays and you see the old Kaitlyn. But there are times when she is super unhappy. It breaks your heart. We have been trying to stay ahead of the pain so we have been giving pain meds on schedule. Even at night! So mom and dad are pretty tired. We decided it was time to try and stop the pain meds tonight so we are giving Tylenol a shot. She has been having these extreme fits for no apparent reason and we were starting to wonder if she is having bad side effects.

I'd love for Kaitlyn to be able to return to school on Friday. I'm sure she'd love to see her friends and teachers. We're just hoping things continue to improve.

Surgery a Success

Well the surgery is over. The doctor confirmed that her tonsils and adenoids were large. He confirmed that the layngomalacia is still there. He was surprised she hasn't outgrown it. But he said it didn't affect her breathing during surgery so doesn't seem to be problematic.

Poor kiddo was quite upset after. She screamed and fought and tried to pull her IV. After some morphine, she calmed down eventually. We are in our room now and she finally fell asleep. What a day!

Tonsillectomy tomorrow

Wish us luck - Kaitlyn is going in to get her tonsils and adenoids out tomorrow at 10:30. While they are in there, they are going to do a laryngoscopy and a bronchoscopy. Once and for all we should know if there is anything else medically that is preventing her from talking and eating.

Excited that this could help her overcome the eating issues...
Scared it will hurt and cause us to have a setback in what she is eating...
Dreading an overnight hospital stay...
Oh the challenges!

Saturday fun

On Saturday we went to Kole's 5th birthday party. It was at an old school bowling alley where they had people setting the pins. Very cool! We got there late because Kaitlyn was napping but she had a good time. She got brave towards the end and was running around with the other kids.

On the way home we stopped at Chuy's for dinner. It was our first attempt at dinner out with Kaitlyn in a long time. It was a success! She played and ate and had a good time.

Wacky Wednesday

It was wacky Wednesday at school. Here was my best effort. I chuckled that all of her clothes have coordinating colors. She was so cute when we walked into school. She pranced in all excited and super cute. Tomorrow is pajama day!
