Is Summer Over Already?

Here's some random photos from August.  Hailey is LOVING Sesame Street these days.  Well, specifically Elmo.  But she calls all of the characters Elmo.  It is cute.

Scott, Russell and Logan came to town.  The girls had fun with the dogs and Logan.  Look at Grandma's girl.

I snapped a photo of Kaitlyn here because she was taking bites of her sandwich! Normally she would shove the entire piece in her mouth. Progress!

We were getting requests for family photos from all of the teachers so we tried to do a mini photo shoot one night when the babysitter showed up.  This was the first one she snapped and it ended up being the best picture.

From here it was like herding cats.  I think Kaitlyn was not enjoying the annoying "cheese" we shouted out to try and get them to look at the camera.

Oh well.  Maybe next time.

This one loves trying on our shoes.

The daycare was closed for 1/2 day last week so I took the girls to the pool.  For a little bit, we had the whole place to ourselves.

Summer Stomach Bugs

In July we were hit by a stomach bug.  Hailey was patient zero - on Saturday morning I went to get her in the morning and she had thrown up in her crib.  It was weird because she didn't have any on her pajamas and it was dried in the bed.  I guess she must have done it early in the night but never cried out for us.  Poor kiddo.  We layed low that day but she never ran a fever.  She did have diarrea, but nothing else was off.

On Tuesday morning, Kaitlyn threw up in the parking lot at daycare.  She was about to get out the car and she gave me a funny look.  Poor kiddo has still not mastered how to throw up.  And it freaks her out.  It was my busy time at work so I called Eric and he met me at home so he could stay home with Kaitlyn.  She got sick one more time but then she was fine for the rest of the day.

On Wednesday, Eric woke up and didn't feel well.  So he stayed home again with Kaitlyn.

On Thursday, we sent Kaitlyn back to school because she had been doing fine since Tuesday mid-morning.  I ended up leaving work `because I wasn't feeling well.  I think it was in my head a little bit because everyone else had been sick because I ended up being fine.  But that night Kaitlyn came down and threw up on the couch. The diarrea started a few hours later and she spent a lot of the day on Friday in the bathroom.  But then she rebounded and seemed better.  Again, no fever.

On Saturday, it was parent's night out at daycare.  Kaitlyn had been doing fine for over 24 hours so we took her.  When Eric went to pick her up, she was sleeping.  The teachers mentioned that she had some diarrea.  Eric was almost home when she threw up all over the car.  Not again!  Not a fun week at the Aitken house.

Kaitlyn's First Movie

In July, Kaitlyn's daycare took a fieldtrip to Alamo Drafthouse to see Planes 2.  I decided to go along to chaperone because I had no idea how she would do.  At home she is not interested enough in movies to stay watching.  So I was afraid she wouldn't sit in her seat.  Also, I wasn't sure if the volume would bother her.

Kaitlyn was a champ.  I don't know if she was super interested in the movie, but she really enjoyed the experience.  They each got popcorn and she really liked it!  Of course, she dropped it on the ground... but all in all she was very good!  Much better than some of the other kids.

Loving the New HEB

They opened a new HEB right at the front of the neighborhood.  Most of the time I just go with Hailey but both girls really like to go.  We have started riding in the fancy carts.  That is really the only choice when both girls go.  The carts are a little smaller than they are at HEB plus.

July 5 swimming fun

We went across the street on July 5 to do some swimming and to hang out.  Kathy and Jeff were over too and we had a blast.  The girls were jumping in at the same time!  So cute

Road Trip

This weekend we went to Houston for a party to welcome Baby Logan!  We rented a little condo on Lake Conroe and Grandma and Granpa stayed with us too!  We took the day off on Friday so got on the road a little before 10.  I took these photos along the way.

Hailey caught some zzz's.  She was much more comfortable since we turned her forward facing.  I think she was pretty entertained by that for the first hour or 2.  We had a bit of a stumble.  The first time we stopped to go potty, Kaitlyn was a bit scared by the autoflushing toilets at Buccee's.  For some reason she seemed to be more bothered than usual by this.  But then she and I got into a battle of wills regarding hand washing.  She was refusing and it ended up with her on the floor thrashing about. Needless to say, when we stopped at Buccee's #2, she would not enter the stall with me to even try to go.  So we were outside of Brenham when she announced that she needed to go potty.  We were lucky (or so we thought) to find a nice looking place to go.  It had a McDonald's, Quiznos and a little convenience store and they all shared the same restroom.  They had a family restroom so we went in there.  However, the main restroom was right next door and had the loudest hand dryers I have ever heard! So Kaitlyn became very distraught. She refused to go in that bathroom so I tried to bring her to the main bathroom but it was very crowded and there was a constant stream of people washing their hands.  Kaitlyn stood crying, with her hands over her ears.  Broke my heart.  I called Eric and he took over.  I went and had a little cry in the parking lot.  Then I went and asked the workers if there was another restroom because my 4 year old could not tolerate the dryers.  They offered her paper towels (thinking the issue was just that she wouldn't wash her hands).  I explained that she wouldn't even go so they told us to use the family stall - that it "wasn't that bad."  Sigh.  Long story shorter... it took us a very long time to work through the meltdown.  She screamed.  It was horrible.  We went to a Dairy Queen, calmed down and then she went potty.  Hallelujah!  I think for future road trips we will bring a portable potty (although she has never used one) and head phones (that she is not a fan of either).  It is worth a shot.

So back to the good stuff!  We stayed in this condo that was right on the lake.  Great view and I totally realized that it was the same condos we stayed in for Bork Bash #1!  The first day we went swimming in the pool and had a low key evening sitting out on the porch.

The Sip and See was on Saturday.  I saw some of Scott's friends that I met back when I just graduated college (Marsha and Ashley).  And I saw Russell's friend Lindsay that I met the first time I met Russell.  Geez... time flies!  The party was a success.

After the party we hung out at the condo.  The girls loved looking at the water, we watched a wedding from afar, and we even fed some ducks!

Grandma wanted to try and get a picture with the girls and Logan.  I kept trying to tell my mom that the first rule of photos with the kids is that you have to plaster a smile on your face the entire time while we wait to get the kids situated... fail

Great weekend but we are glad to be back home.  First day of school tomorrow.
