Meet the Hello Kitties

Kaitlyn has quite a few Hello Kitties. She has started to name them. Daddy Hello Kitty is currently her favorite. He goes to school with her everyday.

From left to right - first we have Mommy Hello Kitty. The description on Amazon says "Pink Leopard Nerd with Glasses."  Nerdy? Glasses? I guess that is me.  She gave her that name in January when I was sick and wearing my glasses instead of contacts.  This is our second one of these.  I have had to sew the glasses on a time or 2 and the other one split open in the back.

Next is Christmas Hello Kitty.  Not much mystery there.  I also think I have heard her call this one Grandma Hello Kitty.  Grandma did give her that one...

Last is Daddy Hello Kitty.  We have 2 of these too.  I swap them out to try and get a wash in.  This is one of our first Hello Kitties but it only recently became a favorite.

Above we have the Cupcake Hello Kitty.  He is big so isn't part of her nighttime routine.  I have had to perform cupcake reconstruction surgery more than once.  And the bow too.  It is too tempting to grab this one by the cupcake!

Here are our newest little additions.  The teddy bear was a Valentine's Gift from grandma.  I'm not even sure where the other one came but it is called Pajama Hello Kitty and is a finger puppet.  I think it came as part of an outfit I bought one time for her.  She snuck these 2 out the door today. I'm not sure how but they were in her hands when I picked her up from daycare. Whoops.

This is the first one that she really took to. It is a backpack and was with us on our Port A vacation last year. We have a backup one of these too. She uses it as a pillow quite a bit.

Kaitlyn's Trip to the ER

One night last week Eric was helping Kaitlyn wash her hands and noticed that her thumb was super swollen.  And she had a pus looking head on it.  In that moment, I freaked out.  I was convinced that she had some sort of bite and was having an allergic reaction.  I looked at her other fingers and thought they looked puffy.  After about 30 seconds of discussion, I threw her in the car and we were off.  Eric called and said the urgent care place we go to wasn't answering the phone, so we wasn't sure if they were still accepting patients (it was 8:30 and their website said they close at 9).  So I opted for the ER.  I went to the same one I visited in December.

The ride to the ER was agony.  I was convinced that she was getting worse.  She wasn't talking to me and I was having a hard time seeing her in the dark.  Really, she was probably just tired and freaked out by the fact that we were in the car instead of her bed.  And the fact that her mom was going a bit nuts.

Long story shorter, she had an infected abscess that needed to be drained.  Not sure where it came from.  They made me feel horrible - "something like that doesn't pop up over night."  Well, it turns out no one noticed - not daycare, not school, not us! Even worse, it was staph! I found out this week that the school has 2 other cases.  So I guess she got a minor cut and the staph got in while playing with something at school?!?!

The whole ordeal was pretty painful.  We were there almost 4 hours.  2 men had to hold her down and i had to help too while the doctor did it.  And it didn't end there.  They put this huge bandage on her thumb in an attempt to keep it covered and she freaked out!  So when they were done with the procedure, she cried and cried - "take it off!"  It broke my heart.  And then, she cried and screamed "I want to go home!" Because of course, it took them forever to get us our discharge papers.  They gave us antibiotics for her to take - at the time that was just precautionary as they didn't have the test results back yet.

It is looking much better (11 days later). It just looks like a blister now.  Poor kiddo!!

Love these Girls

Kaitlyn took this picture:

This looks like an accident waiting to happen.  Hailey can get up on the bottom ledge of the tricycle and one day Kaitlyn hopped on the top ready to take her for a ride.  This picture was about 5 seconds before I caught Hailey as she fell off the back.

One way in which these girls are very different is with food.  Hailey will eat just about everything and has such a healthy appetite.  Love it!

Asthma?

That is the look you get when you tell a 36 year old she has asthma. I guess when we see Hailey's pulmonolgist next, I can tell him we DO have a family history of asthma.
