Better hair
I got my haircut last night and when I explained my perpetual bad hair days to the stylist, she was quick to recommend a specific shampoo. Well when she was done, my hair was definitely back to normal! So we'll see if I can duplicate her efforts. I'm hopeful!

12 weeks - my second dr visit
Today was my 2nd visit to the doctor and I was fully expecting one of the following to happen:
1. To get a slight lecture regarding the amount of weight I have gained, or
2. To find out that I am carrying twins.
Well, neither of those happened! No comments about my weight at all.
Pretty uneventful visit. I got to hear the heartbeat. My own heart stopped for a minute when it took her a little while to find the heartbeat. But when she did - it was pretty cool. 160 beats per minute!
I also asked her about the fact that I've been so persistently congested and sneezy. She recommended I take antihistamines. I said that I had been hesitant - that even though she said they were safe, were they safe for everyday use? She said I should really take something like Claritin consistently for a couple days to see if that helps.
Next visit is May 29th. I think that visit (16 weeks) will just have some blood work/screening. The visit after that (20 weeks) will be the biggie where we get to see the ultrasound and find out the sex.

Fresh Mountain Air
So I'm in Helena, Montana this week for work. On Tuesday, a group took us to hike up Mount Helena. While I thought it would be a beautiful view and a fun thing to do, I decided it might be too dangerous for me. In hindsight, it probably wasn't too dangerous. But I do think the altitude would have exerted me and I would have had to pace myself. Good thing I didn't try though - I wouldn't have wanted to slow the group down, especially considering the fact that our coworkers in Helena do not know I am pregnant.
So Jennie, a San Antonio coworker, offered to stay at the bottom with me and hang out. It was nice to just be outside. I can't get over how quiet and tranquil it is here. There was a small hill next to the mountain, so we climbed that instead. The picture was our view from the top.

Doh!
I haven't been eating enough green stuff lately. So when I saw today that the HEB meal deal included a bagged salad, I thought that would be a perfect way to get some green stuff in. It wasn't until I poured the ENTIRE bag of lettuce into a bowl, poured the dressing and croutons on, and tossed it that I thought, "oh wait, I can't eat Caesar dressing." And sure enough, right there on the bag ingredients - egg yolks. :(
That is right up there with my craving for hot dogs last weekend. I had a mad craving for a chili cheese coney at Sonic last Sunday but knew there was something about hot dogs that made them off limits. I went home and read my book to find out that some hot dogs have nitrates and nitrites that make them no-no's. That same day for Eric's birthday, his mom was cooking hamburgers and hot dogs. She cooks Hebrew National kosher hot dogs. I thought if any hot dogs were safe - these would be. I was very disappointed to get there and read the package. No hot dog for me :(

10 weeks!
So I passed the 10-week mark...
My next doctor appointment is 4/28 - I should get to hear the heartbeat!
Next week I travel to Montana for work... my first pregnancy travel adventure! I plan on packing snacks and bringing my chocolate milk mix so I can be sure to get in my calcium. It will be long traveling days (4 hours, 15 minutes total in flight with an hour or two layover in Denver) so I'll be sure to stay hydrated and fed. The flight out there will be tough because it will be 2:15pm when we arrive - so we'll probably go from the airport to work! Boo! I'll try to catch some zzz's on the plane. Oh, and I was sure to get aisle seats - easier access for my frequent potty breaks.

First "Morning Sickness"
Last night I think I had my first bout of "morning sickness." I got home from work and was really hungry. So I started to ask Eric what he wanted to do for dinner but realized I was famished. I grabbed a bag of chips as a quick fix. It didn't work. The next thing I knew I was nauseous.
I ended up going and laying down in bed for a bit. After a quick cat-nap and then a light dinner, I felt better but still spent the evening in bed.
That will teach me to wait too long to eat!

Week 8
So nothing really new to report with the pregnancy. I am reaffirming my goal to watch what I eat and to exercise so I do not gain too much weight. I haven't been very good in the food department... For example, on Wednesday night I decided that I wouldn't have any sweets that night (since I have some EVERY DAY). Well, then I saw the mini-powdered sugar donuts and thought, "I'll just have a couple." Well, my couple turned into 6 and then I had a ding-dong too! So needless to say, my old pants don't fit. I'm wearing my pre-diet pants. I might venture out and look at some maternity pants this weekend.
The new job is going well. My immediate boss knows, but I don't think he told anyone yet. So I'm back to a world where no one knows I'm pregnant. I feel like I want to tell them to explain why I eat so much at lunch :)
